With Mabula still waiting for heavy rainfall, one would expect a paucity of sightings, but the opposite has been true, seemingly in defiance the dry season. More tricks are pulled out the bag, with the discovery of pangolin, mating Madjuma lion and lioness, and waterholes continuing to be on the southern side of the reserve, activity for most animals is mainly on those areas. As the heat and wind continue to rise it allows for some of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever witnessed. Dust-filled skies trap short wavelengths of light; as the sun nears the horizon it showcases a spectacle of deep reds and oranges as the particles of dust are illuminated – a perfect time for back-lighting and silhouettes…
